I’m Sue Denham, a national award-winning, inclusive, independent celebrant who is lucky enough to call North Devon home.
Whether you are planning a clifftop wedding, saying goodbye to someone deeply loved, celebrating your family through a naming ceremony, or marking one of life’s important milestones, I create ceremonies centred entirely around your story. Warm, relaxed, personal, joyful and always filled with meaning and love. I go wherever your story wants to be told.

Before I became a celebrant, I spent 35 years in education, teaching in both the UK and the USA, leading schools and working alongside children, families and communities through some of life’s most joyful and challenging moments. Those years taught me something incredibly important. That the greatest gift we can offer another person is to truly listen, to hear what matters and to recognise the stories, relationships and memories that make each person unique.
That is still what I do. Every single day. Because being a celebrant is not about performing. It is about people. It is about reading a room, holding a moment, understanding what is unspoken as much as what is. It is about standing at the front with warmth and calm and total confidence, so that you don’t have to. That is what I bring to every single ceremony, creating something that feels honest, genuine and completely personal to you. There is no pressure to fit someone else’s version of how these moments should look.

I came to this work having lived a great deal of life. I know what it is to be shattered - to be suddenly, shockingly widowed while my children were young. I know what it is to care for someone you love through serious illness, to face cancer myself, to begin again. I have navigated divorce, grief, reinvention and, eventually, extraordinary joy.

Today, I am married to Paul, a brilliant, kind, hardworking, good man. Together we are the proud, occasionally chaotic parents of a blended family of six: my three grown boys, and three wonderful stepchildren who I love as fiercely. We share our home with a rescue dog, cats and an abundance of love.

It is the greatest privilege of my life to stand beside people in their most meaningful moments. The joyful ones, the tender ones, the heartbreaking ones, and those that are somehow, impossibly, all three at once.
